Ribbed Mug
DESCRIPTION:
Like its cousin the Bone Mug, the Ribbed Mug was formed by the artist’s fingers and palms pressing into a coiled clay cup, which served as a prototype for a plaster cast created by Kate Butler to reproduce each new mug. The plaster mold absorbs the moisture from ceramic casting slip, thus forming the walls.
After an initial firing in the kiln, ribbed mugs are glazed in either a glossy white glaze or in a white matte glaze with white gloss on the inside to prevent staining.
