In the ancient, whispering city of Bruges, where time lingers in every cobbled street and weathered façade, a quietly ambitious design studio took root in the autumn of 2017. That studio is Studio LOHO - founded by Karel Loontiens and Jo Hoeven - and from the very beginning their mission was clear: to craft interiors and objects that transcend the ephemeral, that carry with them a sense of heritage and quiet conviction.
From day one, Studio LOHO immersed itself in bespoke interiors of the highest order, reading each spatial project as a canvas. That rich matrix of craftsmanship naturally flowed into product and material design - not as an afterthought, but as an organic extension: pieces that could live beyond a room, become part of a home’s narrative, endure as something loved rather than replaced.
In a world increasingly animated by the disposable and the transient, Studio LOHO holds firm to the belief that true value lies in the lasting. They say: let nothing be thrown away, nothing forgotten. Let each design matter. Let it be a story.
Their journey began with a collection of clay bathtubs: raw, elemental, tactile. This inaugural offering perfectly encapsulated their signature - the elegance of simplicity, the bold use of materials, the unmistakable blend of utility and poetry. It marked their international breakthrough. And at the architects’ and designers’ gentle prompting, this collection expanded: new sinks and bathtubs joined the family, each piece a quiet chapter in a larger narrative of home as art.
The philosophy is clear: spaces are no longer simply functional compartments, but canvases of expression - from bathroom to living area, each room a space of welcome, reflection, and ease. Form and function gently entwined. Beauty and utility held in perfect balance.
And so, as Studio LOHO continues to evolve, they remain steadfast in their core - creating thoughtful, enduring designs that resonate across time. Each piece introduced carries that intention: timeless beauty paired with lasting quality.
Recently, we had the privilege of visiting Jonojé in Bruges - a newly opened hotel where the spirit of Studio LOHO finds its full expression. Jonojé is not a hotel in the conventional sense. It is a place to slow down - where everything is carefully considered, but nothing feels forced. The rooms and suites here are luxury incarnated through restraint and refinement, each corner imbued with the materials, textures, and quiet confidence of Studio LOHO.
Within the walls of Jonojé you can - quite literally - experience all things Studio LOHO: the rawness of clay, the integrity of material, the design that does not shout but whispers. It is a place where beauty and comfort converge, where form is mindful and detail is soulful. Here, the home extends beyond personal space to shared sanctuary. Here, the ethos of Studio LOHO is lived.
If you find yourself in Bruges - or longing for a moment of true design-driven stillness - stay at Jonojé. Walk its quiet corridors, settle into one of its suites, feel the craftsmanship beneath your touch. And in doing so, you’ll encounter not just a design studio’s vision, but a lived world of enduring elegance.
