Born in New York City and raised in Aix-en-Provence, France, Danny Kaplan’s passion for ceramics was shaped by early exposure to the traditional pottery of the region. Visits to the local ‘brocante’ and antique markets showed him firsthand that the elevated and the humble sit beautifully side by side. This, combined with the vivid colors and organic textures at local farmers markets visited throughout his youth, first inspired his work as a prop stylist and continue with his endeavors in ceramics.
Danny studied creative writing, art history and fine art at the New School and Parsons in New York City. Now, explorations in wheel-thrown and handbuilt methods and rich, tactile glazes allow him to create special pieces intended for use every day. Wood firings in Upstate NY enrich his wares with even more depth and magic. A relentless search for the quintessential blend of beauty and utility drives his collections of table lamps, one-of-a-kind vessels and other work.
